Harris County. At
least six of the E-slate voting machines weren't functioning when voters first
arrived at a S.E Houston polling place. People (were) coming in at 7:30 and not
leaving until 9. All 11 E-slate machines are working now, but it took three
technicians to come out to the site and fix the problem. Officials told
Eyewitness News it should have just taken one technician to do the repairs.
There is still no word on what exactly was wrong with the equipment. Several
other precincts were having problems with the E-slate machines as well. http://www.votersunite.org/article.asp?id=3641

- Voter went to vote early and said the
written instructions were too complicated/hard to
read. He was told he could choose a party and his ballot would be
automatically completed, but when he selected the party, many local office
races were not automatically filled in and he was allowed to cast an
incomplete ballot. He said the voting process was taking a long time and some
of the people were crying because they were confused and unsure of whether
their ballots had counted. - Also, the African American male said he voted in
a white neighborhood and when he presented his ID the computer crashed. He
was told this happens "from time to time" although it only happened
to him in this instance. - In the 2000 election he was sent to five different
polling locations before he was allowed to vote. |

Caller's husband registered (new
voter/new citizen). Went to polls this morning and was tole
he was not on list. Judge at polling site would NOT give him or others in
same situation a provisional ballot until judge , after lengthy delay, called
downtown to confirm whether idividuals were
registered. Husband eventually permitted to complete provisional ballot, but
judge wrote "not registered" on ballot and wrote WRONG precinct
number on ballot. Judge wrote "3072". Caller insists correct
precinct is 3169. "Neta" at elections
office returned caller's phone call and confirmed that the policy is noone should be given provisional ballot until
"downtown" gave approval. When caller called back to speak with
person in charge, Kathy Villarrezl, she was told
that there is noone named "Neta"

Reported via e-mail to eirhelp: I voted early from Cody Library, and the wait

Ms. Jones heard a number of reports on the radio in Austin that people who are voting on the e-Slate machines and are voting a straight democratic ticket have 2 problems: for a few, it registers as a vote for Bush; and for all of them, a vote on a referendum about light rail is not on the "slate" and does not register on the straight-ticket vote. She would like this addressed. There is no paper trail on the voting. The election officials appear to be saying that the Bush-instead of-Kerry incidents are isolated and few. |

In Texas, students at the predominantly

district attorney Oliver Kitzman wrote a letter to
the local

persons who failed to meet his
definition of having a legal voting address.6 In fact, an
earlier controversy had led to a lawsuit
and a 1978 federal court order prohibiting the
local registrar from treating Prairie
