Another question about punch cards: is the ballot spoiled if voted a straight ticket then selected individual
candidates? Heard this on the radio. Advised voter should ask questions
before casts his vote and should not deposit unless he is confident it is
correct. If not correct, should demand a new card and start over. |

Caller's friend, a first time voter, was confused by the wording
on the ballot and punched the hole for a straight ticket and then voted for
the presidential candidate of the other party. He believes that the wording
on the ballot was confusing because she believed that she was punching a
party affiliation and didn't realize that she was voting for all the
candidates in the party. He is also concerned that the instructions for voting
that accompany the ballot are very vague re the straight ticket/ individual
candidate punch. |

Machine problem |
Pleasant |
The polling station only had one ballot scanner, which was not
working well this morning (for picture:
http://www.claycoelections.com/ballot_box.htm). In fact, according to one
poll worker, the machine has not worked properly for years. The machine was
not accepting ballots. Poll workers unplugged the machine and plugged it back
in to reboot it. The two voters who reported this incident asked the poll
workers whether rebooting the machine would erase ballots that were cast. One
poll worker responded by asking whether they were "one of those lawyers
sent to monitor us." The voters also reported that the poll workers
began to store the ballots in a slot on the side of the scanner. That slot
quickly filled up. Then they unlocked the storage container and placed the
ballots in yet another container. By |
